Accessibility Services

Audio Description

Audio Description is a narration service for individuals who are blind or have low vision. The audio describer provides an ongoing dialogue of visual events that are taking place on the stage. Service provided by ArtsAccess.

CART: Communication Access Realtime Translation

CART (or realtime captioning) is a speech-to-text interpreting service that benefits people who have a hearing loss, are deafened or deaf, and many others due to different language and learning needs.

Sensory Friendly

Accommodations Include:

  • Lower sound level, especially for startling or loud sounds

  • House lights remain on at a low level during the performance

  • Reduction of strobe lighting

  • Patrons are free to talk and leave their seats during the performance

  • Designated quiet area in the theater lobby

  • Ushers trained to be inviting and accommodating to families'needs

Theaters

Hoof 'n' Horn currently presents shows at three campus theaters. All the venues listed below are equipped with Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs). You can request an ALD in advance by contacting the Duke University Box Office or when you arrive at the event by notifying an usher upon entry. Please arrive in the venue lobby at least 15 minutes prior to the start time listed so your request can be met without disrupting the performance.
